Tessa McClanahan-Richards, DNP, ACNPC-AG, is an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner specializing in nephrology at KidneyCare Oklahoma. She has extensive experience caring for medically complex patients across both inpatient and outpatient settings, with a strong clinical background in critical care and kidney disease management.
Tessa earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Tulsa’s Oxley College of Health Sciences, where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was recognized on the President’s Honor Roll. She completed her undergraduate nursing education at Langston University, graduating magna cum laude. Her academic achievements and memberships in Sigma Theta Tau reflect a strong commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.
In her role at KidneyCare Oklahoma, Tessa focuses on the care of patients with acute and chronic kidney disease. She is experienced in managing complex conditions including end-stage renal disease, fluid and electrolyte disorders, and kidney-related complications in critically ill patients. She is known for her thoughtful, detail-oriented approach and for taking the time to ensure patients understand their diagnoses and treatment plans.
Prior to her advanced practice role, Tessa spent several years as a registered nurse in cardiovascular and intensive care units, where she cared for high-acuity patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, and continuous renal replacement therapy. This critical care foundation informs her clinical decision-making and allows her to provide comprehensive, well-coordinated nephrology care.
Tessa works closely with nephrologists, hospital teams, and referring providers to support continuity of care and positive patient outcomes. She is licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Oklahoma and holds multiple advanced certifications in acute and critical care.
Outside of work, Tessa enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
